Let the trying commence!
This week we started shooting for my new television show with Very Local, which is tentatively called, “Brendan Tries.”
My producer, Joe Harkenrider, rang me up after “Restaurants on the Radar” wrapped last year and asked me if there was anything I would like to do, outside of a second season of RotR, and I had an immediate vision of a childhood hero of mine, Rick Mercer, putting a radio collar on a bear cub.
For those who don’t know, the “Rick Mercer Report” lasted 15 seasons on CBC, starring political satirist and comedian Rick Mercer, trying amazing things from coast to coast in Canada. He did everything from training with Invictus Games athletes to stomping grapes in the Okanagan, and hanging lights on Niagara Falls. And it was all hilarious and joyful and completely memorable.
And wouldn’t you know it, Joe knew exactly what I was talking about. Fast forward to a few months later, and I found myself climbing the wheel of the largest 4x4 monster truck in the country and driving it through an orange orchard on the hunt for Bigfoot. We’ll be hard at work buttoning up a pilot episode this month to submit to Hearst Media, featuring me learning jobs from sandwich makers at Kappy’s Subs, cleaning beer-filled hot tubs at My Beer Spa on International Drive, and learning to be a pirate at the Pirate’s Dinner Adventure.
If they like what they see, we’ll be filming all summer with a September release and I can’t wait to see where it takes me!
