I TURNED THIS INTO A SHRINE
My friends at Se7enbites Bake Shop had been looking at this empty, abandoned phone booth for over a year before they reached out to me to see if I wanted to “art it up.” And when I looked at it up close, I couldn’t resist!
I’d been tossing around the idea of roadside shrines for a while before having this chance so I kind of went at it knowing what I wanted to do immediately; an Elvis shrine.
I made most of it out of old election signs that I simply painted and chopped up to cover the exterior of the booth and give it some more dimension then painted out some little Elvis cherubs and a Buddah-like Elvis inside.
It’s changed a bit over the years as I need to replace illustrations and the flowers inside but it’s still pretty much the same. People walk by and leave little tributes like coins and rocks and candles - which tells me it’s really been embraced and it’s a success!
I’d love to turn it up a notch and put in a bust one day though …
