I got to touch a star today
Every year, the City of Orlando raises a 600-pound golden star ornament over downtown. And every year, I fall in love with it over and over again.
The original star was hung between two competing department stores in 1955 and the tradition continued through the decades and now helps mark the start of the holiday season in The City Beautiful. It was restored years ago through the efforts of Jack Kazanzas and now the star bares his name.
I happened to be at the City’s warehouse property sizing up some nutcracker statues for some possible masks (total bust) but as I was leaving I saw the star peeping out of a loading bay. So I walked over and said hello :)
