An X-Men fantasy league team up spurred by a New Year's Day hangover
I’m nursing a bit of a New Year’s Eve-induced hangover today and thumbing through some old comics to get better. Now I can’t stop thinking about who I would pick for an ultimate X-Men team. Which is a totally normal thing to do on a day away from work.
STORM
Ororo Monroe is the Beyonce of the X-Men world … that being said I hope Beyonce doesn’t play Storm in the Marvel movies. Just vibrating that out into the world. Storm is one of the most powerful mutants on the planet and has the power to control the weather, generate electromagnetic phenomena, fly, and she has shown the ability to use witchcraft in the comics. Which has never really been expanded on as much as I’d like, so hopefully in my ideal world, she’d have an opportunity to dabble a bit more. She’d be the perfect leader of my team too.
DANI MOONSTAR
Danielle Moonstar is one of my favorite Marvel heroines and her powers are super out-of-the-box too. She can telepathically generate her opponent’s worst fears, create psychic arrows, and has a totally cool psychic link with a pegasus named Brightwind. She was a valkyrie at one point and is an excellent fighter. Her character is smart, resourceful, and just an all around badass. I love her.
MAGIK
Illyana Rasputin is so much more than the youngest sister of Colossus, she’s a sorceress, a teleporter, an amazing swordswoman, and the ruler of Limbo. I’d be crazy not to put her on my team. Plus she could teach a few other members of my team a few things about the mystic arts.
PIXIE
Pixie is a sleeper hit for me and when her character was introduced in New X-Men I was totally not into her. But as her character’s arc became more clear, I kind of low key fell in love with her. She’s got some pixie dust thing that causes hallucinations, she can do some magic, and she was given a magical Souldagger from our friend Magik too along with a bit of a darker side that made her more relatable. She was trained how to fight by X-Men greats like Wolverine and she’s apparently training with Doctor Strange on how to use her magic.
FORGE
Forge is way cooler than this image would suggest, but I had to use it … because short shorts.
Forge, who used to totally hook up with Storm before they violently broke up, has been around the X-Men for years. He’s got a mutant power in “inventing” which is totally 80s bologna, but I’m into it. He loves guns and making them, and he has magic powers too … because he’s First Nations, which is a little racist but I still want him on my crew.
WARPATH
James Proudstar has super strength, super speed, and he’s a great fighter. He can fly, can heal, and he has vibranium knives that he shows off all the time, because he’s cool like that. Ghost Rider apparently awakened some latent shamanic abilities in Warpath too, so he could fight Dani’s Demon Bear for some reason. So there’s already a connection for those characters too.
