APOPKA HOPE RISING MOSAIC MURAL

This project was one of my most-favorite ArtReach installations ever.

I hired a local mosaic artist who had grown up in Mexico City to facilitate a series of workshops at the Hope CommUnity Center in Apopka with a migrant worker population, that would culminate in a fancy entryway mural.

We had estimated a month timeline would be needed to complete the project but 5-months and a giant bill later, we finally finished.

Migrant worker families had donated found objects, broken plateware, and little keepsakes to be installed in the mural. We then recorded video interviews with the participants and embedded them on NFC chips in the mural so you could hear the stories behind the pieces.

Such a great project.
