Cool Concepts: The concept of "daylighting" urban rivers
As the west leaned into Industrialization and increasing the density of its urban areas, many streams and rivers that flowed through our cities were shoehorned into pipes and buried beneath our feet. Swept under our urban rugs, many of these waterways continue to flow and a growing number of them are being restored as urban residents reawaken to the importance of having healthier ecosystems as part of the urban fabric.
The process of “daylighting” rivers and streams refers to the act of removing obstructions that covered a river or waterway and restoring them to an open air, more natural state.
